About Will Ferguson, Jr.

Biography

Dr. Ferguson started his career in Emergency Care in the Emergency Department at Charity Hospital of New Orleans after completing his BSN from the University of Mississippi in 1992. He had previously obtained his basic EMT via National Registry. Then, after almost 14 years in Emergency Nursing in several states, including flight nursing, he transitioned into Emergency Medicine by completing medical school at East Tennessee State University in 2010.
Afterwards, he completed both an Emergency Medicine Residency, where he served as Chief Resident and a Fellowship in EMS at the University of Alabama at Birmingham. He has been married to his wife, Susan, for over 25 years and they have 3 children. Dr. Ferguson is currently Director of the Office of EMS here at UAB and oversees the Emergency Medicine Residents’ EMS training. However, a large portion of his time is spent in EMS education. He runs a free continuing education program, Alabama EMS Challenge, that provides bi-monthly education to paramedics, including annual cadaver labs. He also is the medical director for several accredited paramedic programs and works as medical director for numerus EMS agencies including a Helicopter EMS agency. He is an active Board Member of Alabama ACEP and speaks locally, regionally, and nationally on EMS topics. He currently serves as the Medical Director for the Birmingham Regional EMS System which has an annual call volume of almost 200,000.
