About Virginia Pierce

Biography

Dr. Strickland is a native of Alabama, originally from Hanceville. She received her undergraduate degree from The University of South Alabama and completed her medical degree at UAB. Upon finishing medical school, she entered UAB surgery residency and completed training in 2012. After a clinical instructor year with the Division of Acute Care Surgery, she became an assistant professor with the division, with shared duties at the Birmingham VA. In 2014, Dr. Strickland became the Chief of General Surgery at the Birmingham VA, but ultimately left this position in 2016 to become full time at UAB in the Division of Acute Care Surgery.
