About Thaer Abdelfattah

Biography

Dr. Abdelfattah is an advanced endoscopist who specializes in minimally invasive procedures to diagnose and treat complex conditions of the digestive system — particularly disorders of the pancreas and bile ducts, Barrett's esophagus, and early or precancerous growths in the GI tract. Through minimally invasive endoscopy, he treats precancerous lesions and early-stage cancers of the digestive tract — often removing them entirely without the need for major surgery, so patients can recover faster and with less pain.

His areas of expertise include endoscopic ultrasound (EUS) and ERCP — advanced techniques for examining and treating the pancreas, bile ducts, and surrounding structures. He focuses on complex and high-difficulty cases, including those involving altered surgical anatomy, difficult bile-duct stones, and pancreatic disease, as well as procedures attempted unsuccessfully elsewhere. His practice also includes advanced tissue-removal methods such as endoscopic mucosal resection (EMR) and endoscopic submucosal dissection (ESD), which allow large or precancerous lesions to be removed without open surgery.

Dr. Abdelfattah completed his internal medicine residency at the University of Toledo, where he also earned a Master of Public Health. He pursued gastroenterology fellowship training at Virginia Commonwealth University, where he served as chief fellow, and completed advanced endoscopy training at Allegheny Health Network in Pittsburgh. He is board certified in internal medicine and gastroenterology, with additional fellowship training in advanced therapeutic endoscopy. A dedicated educator, Dr. Abdelfattah has received three teaching awards over the course of his career.

Dr. Abdelfattah believes patients make the best decisions when they understand their options. He takes the time to explain each procedure — what it involves, why it's recommended, and what to expect — and for those facing a procedure, he sees putting them at ease beforehand as part of the care itself.
