About Robert Russell

Biography

Dr. Russell obtained his undergraduate degree from Washington and Lee University graduating summa cum laude with a obtaining a BA in European History. He began his medical education at the Medical University of South Carolina graduating in 2003. He completed his surgical residency in general surgery at Vanderbilt University Medical Center. During his residency, Dr. Russell also completed a Master’s in Public Health from Vanderbilt University in 2008. He completed his pediatric surgical training at Riley Hospital for Children, Indiana University in 2012. .Dr. Russell then joined the faculty at UAB in 2012 as assistant professor of surgery. In February 2013, he was appointed the Director of Pediatric Trauma at Children’s of Alabama. Dr. Russell’s clinical interests include minimally invasive pediatric surgery, pediatric trauma and neonatal surgery.
