About Nikolas Hopkins
Biography
Dr. Nikolas Hopkins is a comprehensive ophthalmologist with interests spanning ocular oncology, cataract surgery, and the ocular manifestations of infectious diseases. He joins UAB Callahan Eye after completing his ophthalmology residency at the University of Tennessee Health Science Center’s Hamilton Eye Institute in Memphis, Tennessee, where he developed extensive experience managing a broad spectrum of eye conditions in both academic and clinical settings.
Dr. Hopkins earned his Doctor of Medicine degree from the University of Tennessee Health Science Center, graduating with Alpha Omega Alpha honors. His research contributions include multiple peer-reviewed publications on choroidal melanoma, conjunctival melanoma, and emerging infectious diseases like monkeypox. He has presented his work at national and international conferences, including the American Academy of Ophthalmology and the International Society of Ocular Oncology.
In addition to his clinical and research accomplishments, Dr. Hopkins has demonstrated a strong commitment to service and leadership, notably through his work with the Lions Club at Hamilton Eye Institute, where he founded a nonprofit foundation and organized surgical outreach programs such as the Ivan Marais Cataractathon.
