I found the whole experience, pleasant and professional. The clinic space is clean, new and projects competence and excellence. Many of the downtown parts of UAB healthcare system project similar sense. However, there are also portions of the downtown system that are exactly the opposite. Intolerably, long ER weights and old, rundown areas of the inpatient program are the most obvious, but not only ones. If UAB can attain excellence across the product line, consistent with Hoover specialty clinic, Whitaker etc then it truly projects as a world class center. However, the immense demands and sheer numbers of patients in need in a fiscally austere environment, create back pockets within the healthcare system of marginal quality.
