This was the worst experience I have had with the UAB clinic. When I called yesterday morning, I told them I had a stopped-up ear and was in a great deal of pain. They said nothing was available and to go Urgent Care. I said I would go to AFC for convenience. Shortly thereafter, they called me back and said Dr. Thornton could see me at 2:00. She determined my ear was impacted and said she was not authorized to treat. The nurse knew my ear was stopped up. Why did she tell me to come in, charge a $45 copay, only to send me away with ""you will need to go to Urgent Care"" because there was no availability with the ENT downstairs. This is unacceptable, I was sent away in pain and should have never been scheduled if this was beyond her scope. I felt like there was no compassion or empathy for my situation and this was just a means of making money. I had to teach two classes starting at 5:00 yesterday and today, I am prepping for a colonoscopy scheduled for tomorrow morning. This was communicated to the nurse, the doctor, and clinic manager with no resolution. I am very upset about the way I was treated and for wasting my time. At the very least, my $45 needs to be refunded and someone owes me an apology.

Everyone is very nice for the most part, but sometimes the staff at the desks seem annoyed. I think the nurses who take vitals need more proper training on how to take blood pressure correctly. They often try to take it as soon as I've sat down, or have improperly positioned the cuff. The patient rooms also need better ventilation. They are always too warm.
