About John Lax

Biography

Dr John W Lax is a board-certified Family Medicine physician with subspecialty training in Primary Care Sports Medicine. Dr Lax started his career in uniform, serving in the United States Air Force as both a family medicine physician and later as the director of human performance and non-surgical orthopedic specialists within the Air Force Special Warfare community. He has served alongside and cared for elite miliary professionals around the globe, and now applies that experience to his patients here in Birmingham. Dr Lax is passionate about caring for, understanding, and treating people from all walks of life in a holistic and collaborative environment. Dr Lax has particular expertise in the use of ultrasound for the diagnosis and treatment of a wide array of conditions.

As a Family Physician, Dr Lax takes great pride in the prevention of disease and helping families stay active, emotionally connected, and the best version of themselves.

After 12 years in uniform, Dr Lax eagerly joined the team at UAB to serve his hometown community, advance medical care, and partner with patients and families to safeguard their health.

In addition to his clinical practice, Dr Lax continues to serve as a flight surgeon in the Alabama Air National Guard as a member of the 117th Air Refueling Wing. He enjoys the outdoors with his family including mountain biking, hiking, and running.
