About Hitesh Batra

Biography

Dr. Batra is a Tenured Associate Professor in the Department of Medicine. He established the UAB Interventional Pulmonology program and the UAB Fellowship in Interventional Pulmonology and serves as the director of both. Dr. Batra is the Co-chair of the Thoracic Cancer Management Team of the UAB O'Neal Comprehensive Cancer Center and has been leading the UAB Thoracic Oncology Tumor Board since 2015, enabling truly multi-disciplinary care of patients with lung cancer at UAB. As the President of the Association of Interventional Pulmonology Program Directors, he has made significant contributions to the advancement of IP fellowship education at the national and international level. He has been the director and/or co-director of various national and international conferences including various courses on bronchoscopy and pleural diseases in Africa. Dr. Batra has also been a part of numerous NIH and industry sponsored grants, serving as a Principal Investigator on many.

Research Interests

As an Interventional Pulmonologist, Dr. Batra's primary research interests are discovery of new biomarkers and therapeutic targets in malignant pleural disease and development of novel techniques for accurate diagnosis and ablation of lung cancer
