About Benjamin Shirley
Biography
Ben is a dedicated Physician Assistant in the Department of Urology at the University of Alabama at Birmingham (UAB) Hospital. He specializes in providing comprehensive inpatient care to patients with complex urologic conditions, including urologic cancers, kidney stones, prostate disorders, bladder dysfunction, urinary tract infections, and post-operative management.
Ben works closely with the urology attending physicians, residents, and multidisciplinary team to deliver high-quality, compassionate care on the inpatient service. His responsibilities include daily rounding, managing acute urologic issues, coordinating care plans, performing bedside procedures, and ensuring smooth transitions from the operating room to recovery and discharge.
Ben earned his Master of Science in Physician Assistant Studies from Lincoln Memorial University in Harrogate, TN. He is certified by the National Commission on Certification of Physician Assistants (NCCPA) and holds active licensure in the state of Alabama. Outside of work, Ben enjoys spending time with his family and friends along with exploring the outdoors/golf courses in and around Birmingham, AL.
