About Ambika Ashraf

Biography

Ambika Ashraf, MD, FAAP, is a Professor of Pediatrics at the University of Alabama at Birmingham (UAB) School of Medicine. She completed a residency in Pediatrics and fellowship training in Pediatric Endocrinology at the University of Alabama at Birmingham. Dr. Ashraf is the Division Director of Pediatric Endocrinology and Diabetes at UAB and the Medical Director of the Pediatric endocrinology clinics at the Children’s of Alabama. Also, she is Director of the Pediatric Lipid Clinic at the Children’s of Alabama, and Co-Director of the multi-disciplinary Pediatric Metabolic Bone clinic.
Dr. Ashraf serves in multiple national committees: She is a Fellow of the American Academy of Pediatrics and an active member of the Pediatric endocrinology Society (PES). She chairs the PES Education committee. She has served as the Chair Person for the AAP National Conference and Exhibition of the Section on Endocrinology. She is a member of the Society for Pediatric Research. Dr. Ashraf has published extensively in the area of diabetes, lipids, and metabolic bone disease. She is internationally known for her work on lipid disorders and initiated the Pediatric Lipid Special Interest group at the PES. She serves on the Medical Advisory Group of Sitosterolemia Foundation.
Dr. Ashraf specializes in lipid disorders, diabetes, and bone disorders. Besides, Dr. Ashraf sees children with growth and puberty disorders, reproductive, adrenal and thyroid disorders, and other endocrine disorders.
